We in Local Development and Small-Projects Support (LDSPS) are delighted to share with you our new report “Governance Experiences in SYRIA: Shedding Light on Women’s Experiences in Local Councils in Non-Regime Held Regions“.
In this report Local Development and Small-Projects Support (LDSPS) presents its experience of and observations on the
 approaches and experiences regarding women’s participation in the local councils (LCs) based on its work with about 63 LCs in different non-regime held areas in Syria; several local community surveys conducted between 2017 and 2020, and some research about councils that LDSPS did not work with.
The report presents some major lessons learnt, exposes some important challenges facing women’s participation in local governance structures, and finally provides a set of recommendations.
A distinction between the presence of women in LCs and local governance structures will be made at two levels: - Presence by employment; and - Presence through representation (elected). The impact of working on the social acceptance on increasing the presence and participation of women will also be noted
