Al Bayan Center for the Deaf and Dumb Initiative - LDSPS

The Al-Bayan Center for the Deaf and Mute is an ambitious initiative launched by a family in Kafr Nouran, rural western Aleppo, who themselves face challenges related to speech, hearing, and special needs. Due to interfamily marriages, the village has seen a 50% prevalence of deafness and muteness among children and residents.

Driven by self-initiative and determination, the project aims to teach sign language to children and women in the village, create an inclusive environment for their integration into society, and harness their potential for community development. It also seeks to raise awareness about the challenges faced by this group and the long-term impact of interfamily marriages on future generations.

Through years of dedication, Ms. Bayan and her father have transformed this initiative into a fully functional center, where children and women with speech and hearing impairments learn sign language and engage in intellectual and recreational activities they were long deprived of. Today, the family continues to innovate and expand the center’s programs, attracting children from within and beyond the village, while ensuring a safe and supportive environment for them.

How You Can Help

The center now urgently needs support from organizations and community leaders to expand its activities, enhance its resources, and develop its capabilities, ensuring a brighter future for those it serves.
