Ground Weighbridge Project – In Collaboration with the Local Council of Azaz

The Local Council of Azaz is undertaking a project to establish a ground weighbridge in the city’s designated truck terminal, which serves as a key hub for incoming and outgoing freight due to Azaz’s strategic location connecting rural Aleppo, Idlib, and the Bab al-Salama border crossing with Turkey.

Previously, trucks parked along the roadsides, causing traffic congestion and security risks. To address this, the council established a dedicated truck parking area, generating revenue through nominal daily fees for overnight stays. The new weighbridge will be installed in this terminal, ensuring that truck fees are determined based on actual load weight, optimizing logistics and road safety.

Strategic Integration with the Wholesale Market (Souq Al-Hal)

Across from the truck terminal lies Souq Al-Hal, a wholesale market where 60% of the shops are privately owned by city residents, while the remaining 40% belong to the local council. Over the past five years, the market was temporarily repurposed as a shelter for displaced families. Recently, the council has been relocating residents to a newly built camp or providing financial compensation, allowing for the market’s restoration and reopening.

Once operational, the market will be relocated outside the city center to reduce congestion. Having a weighbridge in close proximity will be highly beneficial, ensuring fair trade, streamlined logistics, and improved traffic management in the city.
