Local Council Elections in the town of Ain Jara - LDSPS

The local council in the town of Ain Jara successfully conducted its first general election in the western countryside of Aleppo. This was carried out under the supervision of the Local Councils Directorate in Aleppo Governorate, in coordination with the Local Development and Small Projects Support Office (LDSPS) and the Local Councils Units (LACU), with the involvement of several civil society organizations, which contributed to organizing training sessions, awareness seminars, and election monitoring.

A total of 35 candidates ran for council seats, including 4 women from the town, competing for 15 seats. Voter turnout was encouraging, as it marked the first opportunity for citizens to exercise their voting rights. A total of 2,005 voters were registered, of which 810 were women. For the first time, a woman succeeded in a general election for the local council.

It is worth noting that the organizations monitoring the elections observed some irregularities in certain polling stations, and the election process faced some organizational errors. However, as a first-time experience, it proved valuable for local councils, civil society organizations, and the town’s residents, offering valuable insights for improving and enhancing the process in future elections.
